What is AI readiness?
< 1 min read
Short Answer #
AI readiness is the degree to which a community has the language resources, governance, infrastructure, and capacity needed to responsibly benefit from future AI technologies.
Expanded Answer #
Many communities ask: “How do we prepare for AI?” The answer is surprisingly similar to the answer for language revitalization itself. Strong AI readiness typically begins with:
- Recordings
- Transcripts
- Dictionaries
- Metadata
- Educational resources
- Governance frameworks
Without these foundations, AI has very little to learn from. Communities that invest in language infrastructure today are often simultaneously investing in AI readiness. Importantly, AI readiness is not primarily about purchasing software. It is about building strong language foundations. Those foundations remain valuable regardless of which technologies emerge in the future.
